Joseph Kreines has composed a wonderful set of variations based on J.S. Bach's Jesu Mein Freude. Originally written for inclusion on the legendary Chicago Symphony Low Brass recording of orchestral excerpts and quartets in 1971. In this work the many styles and colors of the low brass section are featured. Each player is afforded a solo cadenza prior to the final statement of the chorale theme. -vk/cdp
