|Caviani|| Point of Departure
20th Century (1995). Point of Departure-Antiphony for Eight Trumpets was premiered at the 1994 International Trumpet Guild Conference at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. It is written for solo trumpet and 7-part antiphonal trumpet choir. In this work, six of seven choir members double on flugelhorn, and all make use of Harmon mutes. The main theme is stated quietly and majestically at the beginning. It then segues to an exciting rhythmic section, then becomes mysterioso. The theme returns and closes the work on a quiet note. The piece not only showcases the soloist, but also allows each member of the ensemble to display their ability. The work should be performed with the soloist standing between the two choirs in a semicircle.

|Donovan||Solo Recital Works for Nasty Auditions||NMC047||Trumpet Unaccompanied||$8.00|
As the name implies, this is a high powered piece that really moves. For solo trumpet and 7-part ensemble. Soloist doubles on piccolo, Bb and flugelhorn. Upper four ensemble parts double on Bb and flugel. Bottom three parts are flugel exclusively.
Dedicated to Robert Levy. Written for Levy & Harmon as a vehicle to showcase both player's unique talents. Begins in a moderate three (quarter = 138), changing to a slow conversation between muted trumpet & piano, then accelerates back to the original tempo. the piece concludes with an improvised trumpet cadenza and flourish.

|Haugland|| Rondo Breve
Composed in 1965, Rondo Breve has become a popular trumpet trio, appearing on contest lists and recitals. The work is indeed short as the title implies, with all 82 bars in one movement. The combined range is compact (trumpet 1 ranges e1 to a2; trumpet 3 ranges a to d2) allowing this piece to be performed by both intermediate and advanced trumpeters. It is graded as a "3" on the New York list (out of a range of 1 to 6, 6 being the most difficult).
|Hessen|| Intrada (Miller)
Moritz von Hessen (1572-1632) wrote this work for 4 cornetti. The "cornet" of Hessen's day was a wooden instrument much like a modern recorder, but with a cupped mouthpiece and wrapped in leather. It had a gentle yet clear tone, and because of its fingerhole construction, was fully chromatic. This edition, extracted from Das Erbe Deutscher Musik Landschaftsdenkmale Kurhessen, for modern trumpets is set in the key of F (G if performed on Bb trumpets). It has been edited for phrasing and dynamics. Set in 4/2, the rhythms are easy to perform, and the range of the first part does not go above top space G. The fourth part is required to perform many low G's and one low F.
